Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics. The action of Neohaemodes is based on the ability of low-molecular povidone to bind toxins circulating in blood and quickly eliminate them from the body. It binds blood circulating toxins to the fullest extent possible in patients with shigellosis, salmonellosis, food poisoning.

Potassium chloride contributes to control of necessary intra- and extracellular potassium levels. Calcium ions are involved in blood coagulation, are necessary to maintain stable heart function, and participate in many physiological and biochemical processes. Sodium bicarbonate has alkaline properties, increases the alkali reserve of the blood. Sodium chloride normalizes fluid and electrolyte metabolism. Magnesium ions activate most energy-dependent reactions.

Neohaemodes promotes the elimination of erythrocyte stasis in the capillaries developing during intoxication of any origin that results in the improvement of microcirculation. It increases renal blood flow, increases glomerular filtration and increases urine output.

Pharmacokinetics. The drug is rapidly excreted renally and partially via the intestine. Povidone is not subject to metabolism in the body, about 80% is excreted renally within first 4 hours, it is completely eliminated in 12-24hours following the infusion.

Any amount of potassium chloride is passively absorbed in the alimentary tract and enters the tissues. Potassium is mainly excreted renally and partly via fecal matter. Sodium chloride is rapidly excreted unaltered renally. Magnesium ions are poorly absorbed in the intestine (20%), excreted mainly renally. Following oral administration, calcium chloride is well absorbed, excreted via the intestine and renally.

Indications. Neohaemodes is used as a detoxifying agent in toxic forms of gastrointestinal diseases (including shigellosis, salmonellosis, dyspepsia); in peritonitis, bowel obstruction (in pre- or postoperative period); in sepsis, burn disease in septicopyaemia stage, exogenous intoxications in toxemia stage.
