Pharmacological action: Hemostabil is a complex preparation in the form of hypertonic solution. Under hypertonic component (sodium chloride high concentration, osmolarity 2,567 mOsmol/L) water, mainly from extra cellular fluid compartment rapidly moves to the bloodstream, increasing the intravascular volume. Hypertonic saline solution has short-term effect due to elimination of sodium and chlorine ions from the vessels. Dextran 40000 retains fluid in the bloodstream for 3-4 hours, maintains circulating blood volume, producing a hemodynamic effect. The maximum effect on the circulating blood volume is the overall effect of hypertonic solution and dextran 40. The drug has a volemic effect in the range of 150-200% of the injected volume, that persists for 30-60 minutes. Infusion of 250 mL of Hemostabil allows for increase in intravascular volume up to 1000 mL within 5 minutes.

Pharmacokinetics. The combination of sodium chloride and dextran 40 does not change the pharmacokinetic properties of each component. Sodium content in blood plasma after Hemostabil injection increases up to 9-12 mmol/L, reaching the normal ranges in less than 4 hours. Dextran 40000 elimination half-life is 3-4 hours; it is excreted unchanged via urine.

Indications: intended for early repletion of circulating blood volume depletion for prevention and treatment of hypovolemia and hypotension and shock in acute blood loss, injuries, wounds, surgical interventions, burns, infectious diseases.
